Spring 2026: "sanctuary"

While safe spaces are increasingly intruded on across the world, it becomes essential to reconsider the role of design not only as a tool for aesthetics or efficiency, but as a quiet form of care. Design has the capacity to heal, protect, and shelter. Sanctuary is not only a physical condition, but a psychological and emotional one. Design makes decisions about who feels welcome, who feels watched, who feels safe, and who feels at risk. These decisions are rarely neutral. How might we communicate the impact of sanctuary through design?

FALL 2025: "ODDITY"

From physics-defying staircases to large, mesmerizing monuments , architecture often slips into the realm of the strange. These moments of oddity can unsettle, amuse, or inspire, reminding us how space is never quite neutral but full of quirks, contradictions, and surprises which shape our individual experiences.

SPRING 2025: "intentions"

All design is with intention. Intention gives form to a design through deliberate action, revealing the outcome that is desired. Intentions, however, are nothing more than a suggestion, a hint of an idea of how something can be perceived or created. To suggest that our intentions will be perfectly realized in a changing future is idealistic. We must design with intent, but we must also acknowledge the many consequences and interpretations that our designs may have. That is the challenge we face. With what intentions have you approached your own work and how have you seen those intentions affect the final outcomes of projects?

FALL 2024: "MOMENTS"

Architecture is defined through its moments. Not a single moment, but a series of moments, becoming the past, future, and the present we live in. While the architecture itself is static, we may only experience it today and with the senses, emotions and biases that we have. Architects have the ability to not only interact with the present, but to acknowledge the past and design for the future. How do we, as designers, embrace these moments of transiency? How do we recognize them in our own lives?

SPRING 2023: "revisions"

Revision is an integral part of the design process. The ability to iterate, evolve, consider alternatives, and discern what’s successful is how architects improve their work. But revision is more than a self-reflective process; revising can be done with narratives, paradigms, structures, and perspectives. How can we contemplate revisions?

SPRING 2022: "localities"

Our relationship to architecture is grounded in the concept of locality. It encompasses the context - contrast, definition, background - of the structures and spaces architects engage with and affect, and establishes a backdrop against which form is articulated and meaning is created.
